The purpose of this course is to be able to recognize changes in the animals as related to illness, stress or injury and how to properly summarize and document findings in a concise manner for review by staff.
Making an Observation : how to observe the animals for any clinical signs of illness, stress or injury. Be able to describe the difference between an observation and a diagnosis as well as how to properly document, using appropriate medical terminology the findings, so appropriate care can be provided by the animal care team.
General Assessment : acquaint with how to objectively assess the health of an animal using the Body Conditioning Scoring chart, as well as the art of observation of an animal's posture and behavior to determine health status.
Movement : acquaint with how to objectively observe movement or lack of movement in an animal to determine health status.
